The original BesBox Project was formed around 2004 with the aim to fuse tech with consumer art and something fun. The word Bes actually comes from my love for ancient Egyptian history, and with the focus of tech fun at home, I chose the name Bes which refers to the ancient Egyptian god Bes who was a household fun loving god. Seemed apt.

Around that time I founded the Kent Linux User Group (KLUG) and with a merry band we brought Linux to the masses.

Back at BesBox, our first creations were mini-ITX based computers encased in unusual items such as the popular model racing car. All pretty groovy…

As well as this niche and I admit expensive tech (for the time) we also developed embedded systems for multi-media streaming which was a bit cutting edge for the time to be honest 🙂 Again that was done with mini-ITX hardware.

With constraints of consumer spending for these niche items we back peddled for a while.

Then came the Raspberry Pi. We love that tech and other SBC kit. Through the 2020’s along with the addition of 3D printing lots of scope for interesting creations surfaced.

PCB fabrication has been made accessible which opens up other avenues.

Now we have progressed (or is that regressed) to retro computing.
